Lt Col (Retired) William Szych is a veteran of the Air Force and its worldwide AWACS (airborne radar) missions. After 20 years on active duty, in 1996 he returned to his hometown of Hatfield, MA, and became the first Town Administrator. He volunteered to go back on active duty after the attacks of 9/11 to help in the Global War on Terrorism. He served on deployments to Qatar and Iraq in 2004. He is the son of a Marine who fought at Roi-Namur, Tinian, Saipan, and Iwo Jima, and the father of a Marine who deployed to Afghanistan. He recently moved to Ligonier, PA, with his wife, Jan, a native of Ft William, Scotland.
