In Somerset County, community volunteers spent their Saturday morning installing over 7,000 flags at Patriot Park in Stoystown.
It's part of a yearly effort by the Patriot Park Foundation to decorate the post-9/11 U.S. Armed Forces Memorial with flags representing each and every fallen member of the U.S. Military since the global war on terrorism began.
They said the number includes the 13 most recent casualties from Operation Epic Fury.
Patriot Park Foundation president Randy Musser said, “That's what our park is about; honoring those who followed in the footsteps of certainly the passengers and crew on Flight 93, the first combatants in that war. The folks we honor with the flags made the ultimate sacrifice.”
